This picture is of a clamshell heat exchanger on a well known furnace (not an Amana - ours are tubular).  It was manufactured in 1997. It is only 10 years old and had at least five (5) major cracks in it. You can see three (3) of them here. It was discovered by one of our technicians on a Precision Tune-up and Safety Inspection.
